Armed Robbers Hit Briarcliff Bank

The FBI is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating two armed and bewigged men who robbed a DeKalb County bank on Tuesday.

FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett said the two men entered the Wachovia Bank on Clairmont Road just east of Briarcliff Road at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday and announced a robbery.

One of the men jumped  the teller counter with with a blue canvas bag and took an undisclosed amount of money from the teller stations, while the second man, who was armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun, remained in the lobby area and ordered customers to the ground.

No one was injured.

The robber who jumped the counter was described as black, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a t-shirt, glasses and a short black wig. The second robber was black, 20 to 25 years old, with a stocky build. He was wearing a shoulder-length black wig, camouflage shorts and “Timberlake-style” boots, Emmett said.

He said the robbers were believed to be traveling in a gray 2005 Toyota Corolla with Georgia license plate BIG-9533 that was stolen Monday in a 3 a.m. carjacking at the Crestview Apartments in Decatur.

Emmett asked that anyone with information call the FBI at 404-679-9000.
